Humanity on Display: A Look Back at Our Speaker's Stories

Written by Yvonne Armenta

We came together for the first-ever Latina, Presente speaker showcase where we listened to stories that transformed our thinking, connected us to each other, and challenged us to move forward differently.

Our speakers participated in an 8-week pilot program designed to help them create and deliver a signature speech while developing their speaking skills. A core part of our growth philosophy at Latina, Presente is that to truly internalize learning, and move from theory to practice, we have to immerse ourselves in the journey of a speaker (from beginning to end), culminating in a public-facing project. Our showcase was exactly that!

We moved beyond the stale virtual format and created a space where speakers and audiences could freely engage with one another "out loud". Yes, people actually unmuted and applauded, yelled in excitement for our speakers, and shared their own reflections as we heard from our incredible line-up. To our audience, ¡gracias!

About the Founder

Yvonne Armenta is an introverted first generation Mexican-American, born and raised in San Francisco, CA now living in San Diego, CA.

She founded Latina, Presente rooted in the belief that public speaking is more than a skill, it’s a practice of identity, culture, and self-expression. Leveraging her decade-long career as a Keynote speaker and communications professional in tech, she sought to create a space where we could be reminded of the direct connection between public speaking and our cultura of storytelling; where that became the foundation for both our practice, and growth as speakers.
