What is your speaker rate?
If your answer is:
I have no idea.
It depends on the organization's budget.
Well, I've never been paid to speak.
No pasa nada! We're here for you. Let's figure it out together.
Time and time again we see the trend: Latinas undercharge. Now, we can get into systemic and cultural reasons for that (Pay Latinas!!), but maybe you're in the middle of a negotiation, maybe you just built up the courage to straight up ask, "What is your budget?", or maybe you're looking to finally start charging for your speaking.
So, let's just get into it.
General Speaker Fee Ranges by Experience Level
Por favor, don't start overthinking what "category" you fall under. Vamos empezando. There's more to cover before finalizing your speaker rate.
Emerging (Voy empezando) Speaker
Fee Range: $500 – $2,500 per talk
Who this is for: If you are newer to being a professional speaker, but have a niche expertise, a strong story, or solid initial testimonials.
Best targets: Educational institutions, nonprofits, local chapters, and small organizations.
Experienced (I've done this a few times) Speaker
Fee Range: $3,000 – $10,000 per talk
Who this is for: You’ve built a reputation and deliver unique, actionable insights or interactive workshops.
Best targets: Mid-sized corporate events, regional conferences, and professional associations.
High-Demand Expert (I am HER)
Fee Range: $10,000 – $25,000+ per talk
Who this is for: You are recognized as a clear leader in your field. Maybe you published books, have regular media appearances, or a roster of high-profile past clients.
Best targets: Large corporate keynotes, national/international conferences, or high-visibility annual engagements.
Fee by Event Type
Now let's see what your fee looks like based on the type of speaking you do. Here, we account for time, prep, and energy required. For all my introverts, energy is a big one!! Don't forget about it.
🎤 Keynote Speech
Typical Fee Range: $2,500 – $10,000
Keynotes demand a high level of performance and authority. Higher rates apply when you're addressing massive audiences or when the event is backed by major corporate sponsors.
🧠 Workshops & Trainings
Typical Fee Range: $3,500 – $15,000
This is highly interactive, hands-on learning. The pricing is typically higher because it accounts for heavy custom prep work, building worksheets, and keeping a room deeply engaged for multiple hours.
🙌 Emcee & Moderation
Typical Fee Range: $2,000 – $8,000
You're running the entire program/day! The energy of the room, basically depends on you. Pricing depends heavily on the length of the event and what exactly you're owning during it.
💻 Virtual Engagements
Typical Fee Range: $1,500 – $6,000
A great rule of thumb is charging about 70% of your in-person rate. Why? There is zero travel time required, but it is still your premium intellectual property!
👥 Panel Participation
Typical Fee Range: $500 – $2,500
Fees are generally lower here unless you are the name being used to draw the entire crowd.
Your Base Speaking Fee is the starting point.
Always account for these additional expenses:
Customized Content: Charge a premium if a client wants a fully bespoke workshop or a bilingual presentation, for example.
Travel Days ($1,000–$2,000/day): This compensates you for the time spent traveling and any fees incurred while you make it to your destination.
Post-Event Deliverables ($500–$3,000): If the client wants copies of your slides, follow-up resource guides, or an exclusive post-event Q&A session.
Your Energy!! Account for the emotional and mental labor it takes to perform. If a gig requires a high level of performance or multiple networking mixers afterward, build that into your premium.
There's so much that goes into how you choose to price your speaking. Yvonne, Founder of Latina, Presente, shares a full checklist of things to consider when you create your speaker rate card, on the Chats with Yvonne Podcast.
